James Whitmore was born on December 10, 1796 to Joseph and Abigail (Babbidge) Whitmore at Deer Isle, Maine. James married Rebecca Stanley (1789-1872), daughter of Sans and Elizabeth (Mayo) Stanley on September 21, 1817 in Southwest Harbor, Maine. James Whitmore died on February 2, 1882 in Southwest Harbor, Maine.
