John Carroll was born on September 2, 1875 to Jacob William and Rebecca (Whitmore) Lurvey Carroll in Southwest Harbor, Maine. John married Viola Benson Tracy (1881-1940) on April 10, 1897. Viola, a housemaid, was 15 years old. John Carroll died on May 27, 1964 in Southwest Harbor, Maine.
John Carroll's occupation was as a mason. John and Viola moved into the Mountain House in 1900. They moved further into the town of Southwest Harbor in 1917.
