Joseph B. Mason, a shoemaker like his father before him, married Mary Jane “Jennie” Mason (1848-1932) on March 7, 1868 in Ellsworth, Maine. Rev. S. Tenney performed the ceremony. The marriage of a Mason to a Mason, not previously connected by family is curious, but researchers have found no such connection. Joseph seems to have descended from ancestors from Halifax, Nova Scotia, a different family from that of Mary Jane Mason who descended from William Mason (1772-) who died at Mt. Desert Island.
Joseph Brown and Mary Jane (Mason) Mason moved to Southwest Harbor at some time before 1880.
