Joseph B. Mason married Mary Jane “Jennie” Mason (1848-1932) on March 7, 1868 in Ellsworth, Maine. Rev. S. Tenney performed the ceremony. The marriage of a Mason to a Mason, not previously connected by family is curious, but researchers have found no such connection. Joseph seems to have descended from ancestors from Halifax, Nova Scotia, a different family from that of Mary Jane Mason who descended from William Mason (1772-) who died at Mt. Desert Island.
Mary Jane “Jennie” (Mason) Mason, Mrs. Joseph B. Mason (1848-1932) raised money in 1892 to buy the land
for the Southwest Harbor Public Library building by running a “Dollar Social.”
