Herbert Burnham Cousins died in his early 20’s in a flu epidemic.

"Mrs. O.W. Cousins [Lida Ellen (Clark) Cousins] arrived home July 31, after a three-months visit to her brother's family in Spokane. Receiving a telegram from E.M. Cousins stating the critical illness of his son Herbert, she left … Monday for Brewer, she gave aid and sympathy to her relatives, remaining until after the death and burial of the young man and accompanying the family to their summer home here.
