Description:
Milton Haynes Dolliver, great great grandson of Peter Dolliver Jr. (1755-1828), who first came to Mount Desert from Massachusetts, was born to Dudley Bunker and Lura Belle (Haynes) Dolliver on November 27, 1901 in Tremont, Maine.
Milton married Elsie M. Robinson, daughter of Lewis Kennison and Agnes M. (Newman) Robinson, on June 2, 1927 in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Elsie M. (Robinson) Dolliver died on October 6, 1984 and Milton Haynes Dolliver died on September 9, 1996 in Southwest Harbor.
Milton started working as a carpenter doing work for summer people in the spring and fall. In 1927 his father, Dudley Bunker Dolliver, started to take him to Northeast Harbor looking for work. They stopped at the Gordon & White garage on the way and the owner asked Milton if he would like to work there for a month. Milton worked for Gordon & White until 1963, missing only one day of work in 36 years. He later worked for the Southwest Harbor Motor Company and for the Hinckley Company building masts until 1976 when he was 75. He was remembered in Southwest Harbor as the man who ran the movie projector at the Park Theater.
