Douglas “Doug” Emerson Beal Jr. (1952-) was born on August 26, 1952 to Douglas Emerson Beal and Joanne Helen (MacLeod) Beal in Southwest Harbor, Maine. He graduated from Mount Desert Island High School in the Class of 1970. His class started at Pemetic High School in Southwest Harbor for two years and finished in the new Island High School for the last two years.
Doug had an interest in engineering, specifically marine engineering. He taught himself the skills he has used in his career as a noted marine salvage specialist.
