Ina Caroline Robinson was born to James E. and Abigail (Whitmore) Robinson on August 23, 1865 in Tremont, Maine. She graduated from the Castine Normal School and became the first female elementary school principal in the state of Maine. She married Allen Jacob Lawler (1863-1933), son of William and Elizabeth Cook Lawler, on December 29, 1889. Caroline Robinson Lawler died on January 23, 1959 in Southwest Harbor, Maine.
Caroline Robinson Lawler was an active supporter of the Southwest Harbor Public Library during its early years. She was Secretary and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees in 1925.
Caroline Lawler, an early secretary/treasurer of the library, was once observed not taking notes during a trustees' meeting. When asked why, she replied, "I will, when there's something worth saying."
