Description:
John Reynolds I (1880-1961), so called as his original name was lost when he immigrated, and John Reynolds II, John V. Reynolds (1884-1966), came to the area from Portugal at about the same time. John V. Reynolds II, the son of Victor and Maria Reynolds, married Celestine Reynolds (1909-1942), also born in Porto Santo and the daughter of John Reynolds I, on November 28, 1925 in Southwest Harbor.
John Reynolds I (1880-1961) was born on September 12, 1880 on the 16 square mile Portuguese island of Porto Santo, 27 miles northeast of Madeira Island in the North Atlantic Ocean. John, a fisherman, married Agnes Baptista (1888-1952), also born in Portugal, while still in that country. Their first two children, Celestine and Joseph Daniel Reynolds (1913-1958) were born in Portugal. John Reynolds I came to the Boston area between 1913 and 1922 when Mary Reynolds (1922-2000), later Mrs. Farrough K. Rogan was born. Celeste Reynolds, later Mrs. James Edward Harkins (1923-) was born in Boston. Rose Reynolds (1926-1962), later Mrs. William McInvale, was probably born in Manset.
The family did not move to Maine until John's wife, Agnes, came to the United States. John Reynolds I died on December 15, 1961 in Bangor, Maine. He is buried at Mount Height Cemetery in Southwest Harbor.
