Description:
George Borwick Cooksey developed several hundred acres in Seal Harbor and commissioned the 1.5 mile road in 1895 to open up several spectacular ocean front lots as part of his real estate venture. He named the road Sea Cliff Drive and hired Alanson Clement and a crew of sixty men to build the road in 1896. Sea Cliff Drive, now Cooksey Drive, is owned today by the town of Mount Desert.
