The plague reads "This island was given to the National Association of Audubon Societies in 1934 in memory of Benjamin Walworth Arnold who loved birds and who bought Little Duck Island in 1908 in the hope that the Sea Gulls, Petrel Terns, Sea Pigeons, and all the birds that nest along these shores might have perpetual sanctuary.
