Sylvester B. Brown was born on March 16, 1868 to Amos Sheldon and Leoniece Leighton (Tracy) Brown in Eden (Bar Harbor), Maine. Sylvester married May “Mamie” W. Freeman (1864-1939), daughter of John T.R. and Ada Julia (Crocket) Freeman, on March 11, 1891 in Tremont, Maine.
Sylvester was a plumber, eventually owning his own shop in Northeast Harbor. In 1909 S.B. Brown advertised that he did bicycle repairing. In 1910 and 1911 S.B. Brown sold stoves and furniture, did plumbing, “hot water and furnace work,” sold tinware, gasoline and did repairing of gasoline engines, and sold engine supplies. By 1914 he had added sewing machines to his stock. In 1917 S.B. Brown was a sewer commissioner in Mount Desert. In 1918 the town of Mount Desert paid S.B. Brown $252.22 for railing the road at Rock End Hotel.
Sylvester B. Brown died on September 20, 1944 in Southwest Harbor, Maine.
