Hiram Flye was born on October 20, 1811 to James Flye Jr. and his wife, Hannah. Hiram married Eliza S. (1820-1900). The Flyes had eight children. Hiram Flye died on March 29, 1892 in West Tremont, Maine.
"Hiram Flye of Seal Cove was also a builder of ships. He would never allow his vessels to be named for living persons and he always kept the name a secret until the day of the launching. It was very exciting, when, at the launching, the bunting on which the name of the craft was hoisted.
