Richard Edson Rowse (1898-1981) was born on May 7, 1898 to Walter Wheeler Rowse and Ada Bartlett (Holt) Rowse at Lexington, Massachusetts. Richard graduated from Williams College in 1922 and married Ruth Mather McKallor (1900-1970), daughter of Edgar Cole McKallor and Josephine (Mather) McKallor, on October 9, 1923 in Winchester, Massachusetts.
Richard was a champion tennis player winning finals at the Old Belfry Club in Lexington, Massachusetts as early as 1927 and going on to win for several years.
He was the grandson of Hosiah Holt, supervisor of music in the Boston public schools for 35 years and nephew of concert violinist Nellie Holt Hilton. He was associated with his father in the Richard E. Rowse flooring business in Boston.
Richard Edson Rowse Sr. died on July 26, 1981 in Hillsborough, Florida.
