Matilda Gilley (1817-1909) was born on October 5, 1817 to William Gilley Jr. and Hannah Boynton (Lurvey) Gilley at Baker Island, Maine, the seventh of William and Hannah's twelve children.
Matilda married Oliver L. Allen Sr., a marble worker of Sedgwick, Maine, who lived in Biddeford, on October 19, 1837. The ceremony was conducted by Enoch Spurling.
In 1860 the Allens lived in Wakefield, Carroll County, New Hampshire.
By 1870 Oliver Sr. had died and Matilda lived with her children in Biddeford.
Matilda (Gilley) Allen died in 1909 in Biddeford, Maine and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery there.
Note: Oliver L. Allen Jr. (1839-1910), also a marble worker, often cited as Matilda's husband was her son, not her husband.
