Lewis Francis Herreshoff (1890-1972) was born on November 11, 1890 to Clara Anna DeWolf and naval architect Nathanael Greene Herreshoff in Bristol, Connecticut. He grew up in the famous Herreshoff boatyard headed by his father, Nathanial. Lewis established his own career in 1926, designing both racing and cruising sailing yachts, plus many canoes, kayaks and other small craft. Lewis Francis Herreshoff died at the age of 82 on Sunday, December 3, 1972 after undergoing surgery for a broken hip.
